There was a time when the only way people could record their images for loved ones or for posterity, was with paints and oils. It also took considerable time to sit and have a portrait painted. Today, photography has made a picture much easier, less expensive and available to almost anyone. However, along the way, something was lost. Then came portrait artist Leslie Howard Jacob.
For years, Mr Jacob has created photographic portraiture in the Grand Manner Style of Rembrandt, Raphael, Gainsborough. and John Singer Sargent, combining sublime grandeur with elegant deportment and wedding classical simplicity with romantic sentiment. Now, by combining the modern technology of a computer with his photographic portraiture, Mr Jacob has taken portraiture to a level that has never been reached by any free-hand portrait painter. No longer are portrait subjects limited to an artist's "interpretation" of how they look. In addition, you do not have to pay tens of thousands of dollars for an artist that is more capable than others to get a "close" likeness of a loved one.
Mr Jacob takes the "exactness" of his photographic portraits and through the use of a computer, free-hand paints the entire image with the limitless palettes, brushes and art mediums of the digital world. With this unique technique, Mr Jacob can go where no portrait artist has ever been in history ... the combining of watercolors, oils, acrylics, pastels, chalks and more in one portrait. All this while still keeping the "exactness" of the subject's face. You will want to participate in this world when you are ready to start your own exquisite traditions.
Leslie Howard Jacob paints with his camera... or should we say the images he creates seem to spring from a canvas and brush rather than a camera. His rich and elegant use of lighting creates a style that is unique and beautiful. Distinguished by artful compositions and hand enhancements, his portraits capture the timeless qualities of the Old Master paintings. A Leslie Howard Jacob portrait is an elegant art piece for your home and provides a lifetime of memories.
Mr. Jacob has been a full time artist for 36 years. His focus and dedication have made him one of the most respected and well-known artists today. His credits and accomplishments are numerous. Mr Jacob is a world-renowned portrait artist whose work is comparable to John Singer Sargent, Sir Joshua Reynolds, Rembrandt, Raphael, and Gainsborough
I grew up with a famous photographic artist for a father and from birth, I have been submersed in photography. As I grew, I developed my father's passion for art, first drawing and painting, then eventually photography. I worked with my father through high school, learning his techniques and style. When I graduated high school, I attended Daytona Beach Community College, majoring in photography. DBCC is rated third in the nation for photography.
I met my wife, Sarah, there and we have been working together ever since. I graduated from DBCC in 2002 with honors and have come back to work for Jacob Portraiture with my father. I am a member of Florida Professional Photographers since 2001. In 2004, my first year in competition, I received one of the top awards for my portraits. Out of 800 prints, I placed in the top three for Creative Portraits. I have a passion for making creative portraits of my clients, not only capturing their true personality, but also creating an artistic masterpiece that will be cherished for years.
I have grown up with a passion for art, taking a variety of art classes including drawing, painting, fabrics and fibers, and ceramics. When I graduated high school, I continued my art education as a photographer. I attended Daytona Beach Community College and majored in photography where I learned studio lighting and posing. I took classes in the basics of Black and White photography, from rolling my own film to printing my own photographs. Then I took a variety of studio classes using medium and large format cameras. After all of this, I learned my passion is for portraits.
While in my first semester of college, I met my husband Ian. My friend introduced me to Ian who asked me to model for him. I know, what a great pick up line, right? Well, it worked. I modeled for him and haven't taken my eyes off of him since.
I graduated in 2003 with Honors in Photography. I moved to West Palm Beach and have been working for Jacob Portraiture ever since. I am a Member of the Florida Professional Photographers since 2002. Ian and I were married April of 2005 and we both enjoy working together, creating portraits of mothers and babies, brides, pregnant moms, families, and high school seniors. We also create romantic, modern stories for our wedding couples.
I use a myriad of tools in my portraiture: cameras, computers and painting techniques, which allow me to create my photographic art.
